Our mission is to provide musicians with an exceptional playing and listening experience by designing and manufacturing specially treated hand made instrument, speaker and power cables built of nothing but robust, state-of-the-art components that deliver superior signal transfer and harmonic clarity, ultra-high touch sensitivity and a massive dynamic range. In short, we aim to make you a better player – our cables will release the harmonic richness of your instrument and accentuate the nuances of your playing style like no other cable out there. After years of research, trial and error, we have found what we believe to be the absolute best combination of components, chemical treatments and manufacturing processes that all come together to make the best cables on the planet. Period… IS YOURS COLOSSAL?
Colossal Cable’s origins began when I worked 7 years for a small but very reputable boutique amplifier company in North Hollywood California by the name of Bogner Amplification. I wired up, installed, and tested all the speaker cabinet and combo enclosures. Sometimes speaker and instrument cables would go missing, either because of loaning equipment for TV appearances, live shows in the greater area, or Reinhold taking some back to his shop at home to develop a new amp. One morning I realized we didn’t have any speaker cables to test cabs. I went to the general manager at the time, Damir Simic, and asked if he could use his Guitar Center connections to get a discount on speaker cables. After a few moments in deep thought while doing some paperwork he replied, “I don’t have time right now, could you just build some?” It was a pretty simple task. All we needed were plugs since Bogner already had speaker cable for cabinets in stock.
Several weeks later Damir comes back to my desk and says “Hey, why don’t you start a company making high end cables?” I actually busted out laughing to which he replied “No, seriously! You have the soldering skills, you have great ears, you’re not touring like you want to…why not?” The wheels started spinning in my head. Could I really do this? Where would I even start? And the most important piece of the puzzle for me to figure out was how do I build a product that does exactly what it says it will do. A month later Bogner had it’s annual Christmas dinner for it’s entire staff. I sat next to Reinhold Bogner and asked him what he thought of me starting a company manufacturing high end cables? His answer was, “You should totally do that, that would be great for you.”
For a full year I built many prototypes, tested different combinations of materials, compared them to cheaper and pricier brands, and when I was finally able to impress a lot of players and myself with 2 cables (The Brooklyn, The Sweet Fats) I knew I had something special.
It’s been 10 years now and I still get an overwhelming feeling of fulfillment when someone emails, calls, or tells me in person how much they love Colossal Cables. It’s my pleasure to be able to provide a product that does exactly what it says. For all of those who have bought and will buy I cannot thank you enough. I love what I do and I think it shows through the end result.
Fast forward to today and a new owner has taken the reigns: David Zavaletta – a guitarist and tone freak in his own right – who tried the cables and was floored just like everyone else. After a series of meetings and on-boarding sessions, David is now the proud owner of Colossal Cables and continues the tradition of excellence in design and assembly.
